The European Union Studies Program does not offer a study abroad program of its own. However, we encourage students to take advantage of a variety of University System of Georgia programs as well as those offered by our partner institutions. These programs often offer courses which can be used to meet the curriculum requirements of the EU Studies Certificate. They can also be used to earn a "distinction" in the area of "Practicum Experience."  

European Council Programs

The EUSP recommends the University System of Georgia's European Council summer study abroad programs. These include programs in Berlin, Edinburgh, London, Paris, Madrid, St. Petersburg, and Waterford, Ireland. More information on these programs can be found here.

Czech Republic and Central Europe Maymester Program (VSU)

Students may also be interested in the Maymester study abroad program in the Czech Republic and Central Europe offered through Valdosta State University and open to all EUSP students as transient students. The program dates are May 14-June 6, 2020. Students can earn 6 hours of upper-level credit in Political Science, History, or International Studies that can be used for the EU Studies Certificate. The program is based at Palacky University in the beautiful and historic eastern Czech town of Olomouc, but it also features weekend field trips to Krakow, Poland (including Auschwitz), Budapest, and Prague and trips to Vienna and the Southern Moravia wine and chateau country. European Academy - Otzenhausen, Germany, Maymester (KSU)

This is 10-day, EU-focused study abroad program during Maymester 2018. Students depart Atlanta on May 14 and return on May 25. The program is based at the European Academy - Otzenhausen (https://www.eao-otzenhausen.de/en/) in the Saarland region of Germany.  The program includes study visits to Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg City, and Frankfurt. It also includes a service learning experience. Last year's program met with Syrian refugees, and it may do the same this year. Students can earn 3-6 hours of academic credit. Non-KSU students are welcome to attend but must register as transient students to register for courses. Other study abroad programs can be used to fulfill the certificate's curriculum and practicum experience requirements if approved by the program's campus representative.
